Today most books about personal development will include some NLP techniques, although they may not be labelled as such.
One of the most profound ideas of NLP is that of "modelling" i.e if one person can do something, then it should be a possible to find out what they are doing and how, and replicate it.
The four legs of NLP or the principles of NLP as they are something known, help us to achieve this modelling process. The fundamentals of NLP are as follows.

NLP is underpinned by a number of presuppositions some of which are:
- Choice is better than no choice
- If you always do what you've done you always get what you've always got
- If what you are doing isn't working, do something else
- There is no failure, only feedback
- The meaning of your communications is the response you get
- People already have the resources that they need.
Having read these presuppositions yourself if one or two of them strike a chord, or you hear yourself saying "that sounds like me" or you see yourself acting in a certain way.
