Aromatherapy
Aromatherapy is a method of healing using very concentrated essential oils that are often highly aromatic and are extracted from plants. Different parts of the same plant may produce their own form of oil and these are extracted by a special process. The essential oils are used in an unscented carrier oil to enhance the physical or emotional well being of an individual. The oils can be used in massage, as a bath oil or in a vaporiser to fragrance a room. Essential oils should NOT be used on pregnant women, or infants unless this course of action has been recommended by a competent practitioner.
Reflexology
Whilst the art of reflexology dates back to Egypt, India & China, it wasn't until 1913 that Dr William Fitzgerald introduced it to the west as ‘zone’ therapy. He noted that reflex areas on the feet and hands were linked to other areas and organs of the body within the same zone.
In the 1930's Eunice Ingham further developed this zone therapy into what is known as reflexology. She observed that congestion or tension in any part of the foot mirrored that corresponding part of the body.
Reflexology is a complimentary therapy, which works on the feet to help heal the whole person not the prevailing symptoms.
