Food intolerance can lead to weight gain, despite following a low calorie diet.
If you are intolerant to a certain food, the body produces the antibody IgG which in turn increases inflammation in the body. This then causes water retention and bloating in addition to other signs of food intolerance such as headaches, aching joints and IBS. Wheat, dairy products and sugar, eaten frequently cause a ‘feel good’ factor in the body so we tend to eat more of them – but they are some of the worst for causing inflammation and weight gain.
Inflammation can cause a leaky gut which makes the body even more intolerant to foods so the cycle escalates.
To improve digestion:
• Consider food allergy testing
• Reduce or eliminate wheat and dairy products from the diet
• Avoid sugar
• Take a daily probiotic supplement
• Glutamine helps to repair the gut wall
