Lack of sunshine,obesity link

Researches at Aberdeen university studied over three thousand women in Scotland and concluded that a lack of vitamin D caused by a lack of sunshine could be the reason why so many people in Scotland are obese. Those with a body mass index of thirty four produced ten percent less vitamin D compared with those of average weight.

Dangers of Diabetes

Diabetes UK warns that up to 100 people each week in the UK can lose a lower limb through amputation as a result of diabetes.

In addition, poor diabetic control can increase the risk of heart attack, stroke, kidney failure and blindness.

Many people don’t know they have diabetes as it can develop without symptoms. However a diet of excess sugar and being overweight significantly increase the risk.

Eating a well balanced diet can improve blood sugar levels, stabilise weight and reduce the risk of diabetes.

Lifestyle and fertility

A recent Dutch study found that drinking more than four cups of coffee a day and drinking alcohol more than three times a week can reduce the chances of conceiving in women who already experience low fertility.

Smoking more than one cigarette a day and being overweight reduces the chances of conception even more.

Caffeine may have a mild but toxic effect on the ovaries and sperm, hindering those already struggling to conceive.

To increase the chances of conception, attention should be given to diet and lifestyle.

Can tai chi chuan help my diabetes

A recent research team have been able to observe a significant improvement in the causative factors associated in Type 2 Diabetes.

This improvement came with an introduction of gentle exercise in the form of Tai Chi, an ancient Chinese practise.

A significant reduction in the production of glycated haemoglobin ( produced when excess blood sugar combines with the oxygen transporter in red blood cells.) was demonstrated after a 12 week programme of Tai Chi was attended .
